Staff Reporter :
The health condition of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is becoming more complicating due to lack of proper treatment as her liver transplant has become very necessary at this moment on an urgent basis.

Several members of the medical board supervising the treatment of Khaleda Zia said that her multiple health symptoms are developing and further complicating due to untreated underlying liver problem.

The complexity of her kidney issue is increasing along with liver cirrhosis, the medical board said.

Liver transplantation appears to be the only option and the BNP chief urgently needs to be sent abroad, the board added.

The physicians are trying to prevent complications and new symptoms, so that she could suffers less.

Though BNP Chairperson’s medical board has been advising sending her abroad for liver transplant, which is not possible in Bangladesh, for a long time, but the government rejected Khaleda Zia’s appeal citing legal obligation.

Against this backdrop, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s medical board will hold a press conference to inform her health condition today (Monday) at 9 am in the 11th floor of Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.

BNP Chairperson’s personal doctor AZM Zahid Hossain said that Khaleda Zia’s liver transplant is very urgent at this moment.

“The liver transplantation is not possible in Bangladesh. It is not possible to give her proper treatment in this situation,” he added.

On September 25, Khaleda’s brother Shamim Iskander submitted an application to the home ministry seeking permission to send the former prime minister abroad for better treatment, but the government rejected the appeal saying there is no scope to allow Khaleda Zia to send abroad for her treatment.

The 78-year-old leader has been suffering from various ailments, including liver cirrhosis, arthritis, diabetes, kidney, lung, heart, and eye problems.

Since her conditional release in 2020, the BNP chief has been receiving treatment at the hospital under a medical board headed by cardiology professor Shahabuddin Talukder.

On August 9, Khaleda was admitted to Evercare Hospital after falling seriously ill at her Gulshan house Feroza following on advice of her medical board.
