19 injured in BCL factional clash at CU
News Desk :
At least 19 activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were injured when two compartment-based BCL groups of the Chittagong University shuttle train clashed on the campus this afternoon.
Witnesses said activists of the groups– Bijoy and Sixty-Nine — had an altercation over a trivial matter while having lunch at a restaurant on the campus, reports The Daily Star.
Following this, they locked into a clash in front of Shah Jalal Hall around 2:30pm, the witnesses said.
“We have treated 19 injured students.
However, no one was seriously injured,” said Abu Tayeb, medical officer of the Medical Centre at the CU.
“An activist of a rival group attacked a member of our group following a silly matter.
Then, a clash broke out between both sides,” said Sayedul Islam, a leader of Sixty-Nine group.
“We are trying to solve this matter and ease the situation,” Shakawat Hossain, a leader of Bijoy, told reporters.
CU Assistant Proctor Nazemul Alam said he called a meeting with senior leaders of the conflicting groups to resolve the issue.
