Luna Shamsuddoha was a versatile genius women entrepreneurship

Luna Shamsuddoha is one of the leading pioneer personalities of the country’s information technology sector. She is widely considered as a role model for women entrepreneurship in Bangladesh.

Luna Shamsuddoha established herself as a successful entrepreneur leaving the teaching profession at Dhaka University.

She contributed immensely to the construction of digital Bangladesh, creation of skilled workers in the technology sector, development of entrepreneurship and also empowerment of women.

She founded Bangladesh Women in Technology (BWIT). She was the founding president of this organization.

She was also the chairman of a software firm called Dohatec New Media.

In 1992, she started business in the technology sector with a big challenge. Luna Shamsuddoha became the first woman chairman of a state-owned bank, as recognition of a successful entrepreneur.

Her important contribution to the implementation of various projects in the technology sector including the government’s e-GP system is worth mentioning. She was the chairman of state-owned Janata Bank Limited.

In 2013, Luna received the Global Women Inventors and Innovators Network Award for advancing women in technology and empowering Women.

In recognition of his contribution to the country’s economy, she received the Bangladesh Business Award-2017, and was honored with Anannya Top Ten Awards for her work in the local software industry as a woman entrepreneur.

She was married to A K M Shamsuddoha, also a businessman. The couple had a daughter, Reem Shamsuddoha. She died while undergoing cancer treatment at a Singapore hospital on February 17, 2021, aged 67.
