Nuclear fuel transfer ceremony in Rooppur on Thursday

Ishwardi’s Rooppur is full of festive colors surrounding the ‘fresh nuclear fuel’ or uranium transfer ceremony of the first unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.

The project and green city area are being decorated in colorful decorations.

Russian authorities will officially hand over ‘fresh nuclear fuel’ or uranium to Bangladesh on Thursday ( October 5) in the project area. Various high level delegations from Russia have already arrived in Rooppur.

Ministry of Science and Technology Minister Architect Yeafesh Osman along with high-level officials of the Ministry and Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission are staying at Rooppur in Ishwardi. Mahakarma yajna is going on to make the event colorful and memorable.

Colorful murals are painted on the front wall of GreenCity. People of the area are gathering to see this painting.

Alesky Likhachev, Director General of Russia’s State Nuclear Agency Rosatom, will personally attend the ceremony and hand over the ‘fresh nuclear fuel’ or uranium. Minister Yeafesh Osman, will receive on behalf of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Russian President Vladimir Putin and International Atomic Energy Agency or IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi will be virtually involved in the ‘Fresh Nuclear Fuel’ or uranium transfer ceremony.

Housing green city of Rooppur project is also being decorated colorfully.

Various programs have been organized inside the Green City.

The event will continue till October 6.

The front wall of Greencity is decorated with beautiful paintings.

Dhaka-based painter Tipu Sultan has tried to dispel common people’s misconceptions about nuclear power through colorful paintings.

Painter Tipu Sultan said, there is a misconception that the natural environment of the area will be destroyed if the nuclear power plant is established.

The fact that the project will not have any impact on the natural environment, has attracted people through colorful imagery.

Also the achievements of our country have been placed in this painting.

Science and Technology Minister Yafes Osman visited the Green City painting. At that time, he told The New Nation that such a big achievement has not happened before for the country after independence.

We are now the 33rd nuclear nation in the world and have the capability to work with such technology.

Stating that this is a great achievement for Bangladesh, the minister said, we are grateful to all the people of the country for the way the people of Bangladesh have helped to implement this project.

Today we have been able to complete this project due to the cooperation of the people of the country.

According to the project officials, the country’s first nuclear power plant is expected to start producing 1,200 megawatts of electricity in the first unit in March 2024.

The second unit could be commissioned next year by mid-2025.

The two units will generate a total of 2,400 MW of electricity.
