Sand excavation from ECA in Jaflong, 5 boats seized

Sand and stones are being extracted illegally from the Environmentally Critical Area (ECA) of Jaflong in Goainghat upazila, one of Sylhet’s tourist centers. The environment of that area is under threat.

The Task Force conducted a raid on Monday after receiving a complaint of illegal extraction of sand from the ECA area.

Meanwhile, 5 sand carrying boats were seized, besides these boats were fined one and a half lakh rupees.

On Monday afternoon, the Directorate of Environment, BGB, Upazila Administration and Police jointly conducted the operation.

Goainghat Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Tanveer Hossain said, on Monday, a mobile court was conducted in the ECA area of Jaflong with the participation of a team led by the assistant director of Sylhet divisional office of Environment Directorate, BGB and Goainghat Thana Police.

In the operation, 5 sand carrying boats were seized and a case was filed.
