Govt to procure 1.20 lakh MTs of fertilizer

The government on Wednesday approved a proposal for procuring some 1.20 lakh metric tonnes of fertilizer worth Tk531 crore in order to meet the growing demand of the country.

The approval came from a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP)on Wednesday with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting virtually, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Sayeed Mahbub Khan said the day’s CCGP meeting approved the proposal.

He said the fertilizer will be procured from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirate (UAE) and one domestic company.

Mahbub Khan said Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirate (UAE) companies will provide 90 thousand metric tonnes of fertilizer while the domestic company Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO) will supply 30 thousand metric tonnes.

It was known that Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) would procure 30,000 metric tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from SABIC Agri-nutrients Company, Saudi Arabia under the 2nd lot with around Tk132.27 crore.

The BCIC will procure another consignment of 30,000 metric tonnes of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Qatar Moontazat with around Tk136.57 crore.

The government procures another consignment of 30,000 metric tonnes of bulk granular urea fertilizer from UAE Fartiglobe Distribution Ltd with around Tk132.27 crore.

Besides, the government procures another consignment of 30,000 metric tonnes of bulk granular urea fertilizer from domestic company KAFCO, Bangladesh under the 5th lot with around Tk129.85 crore.
