Govt have to bear responsibility if anything happens to Khaleda Zia: BNP

The main opposition party- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said the ruling Awami League government must have to take the responsibility if anything untoward happens to BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for failure to sending her abroad for medical treatment.

“Her (Khaleda Zia) physicians said it will be difficult to save her life if she is not allowed to go abroad for advanced medical treatment immediately.

But the government is yet to response positively,” Mirza Fakhrul said while addressing a rally at Dholaikhal in the capital.

“The government will have to take all the responsibility if something happens to Begum Khaleda Zia for not getting treatment abroad,” he said.

The BNP Secretary General said Awami League has lost its head due to the United States’ announcement regarding visa restriction on Bangladeshi people.

He also said that the US visa restrictions would have an impact on investment.

Dhaka Metropolitan South unit of the BNP organised the rally for its one-point demand, including the resignation of the government, conducting polls under a neutral government, and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release.

“If our demands are not met in due time, the people of the country will announce tougher movement to oust the government,” he warned.

“The government is planning a rigged election next year. But this time, no one, including the United Nations, will accept such general polls.

The people of the country will not accept it as well”, he said.

Apart from these, the BNP issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the government to release and send party chairperson Khaleda Zia abroad for better treatment.

Mirza Fakhrul said in this regards that the government would have to take the responsibility if something happened.

He made the announcement on Sunday at a rally in front of the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the capital.

Besides, BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas on Monday warned the government of dire consequences ‘if anything untoward happened to Begum Khaleda Zia.

“A dire consequence is awaiting you if you do not send our party chief abroad for taking necessary emergency medical treatment,” Mirza Abbas said while attending a prayers event seeking Khaleda Zia’s early recovery from her illness in Nayapaltan headquarters of the party.

“We will not take your existences in this country if something untoward happen with Begum Khaleda Zia.

Sorry I may be got emotional,” Mirza Abbas said.
