52 physically challenged DU students get scholarship

DU Correspondent  :
A total of 52 physically challenged students from different departments of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded scholarships with the help of the Social Welfare Ministry of the government.

State Minister of Social Ministry Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru on Sunday distributed cheques for the purpose among the students at a function at Professor Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium of the university with DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.

“The Ministry of Social Welfare is implementing more than 52 programmes under the social security framework for the helpless, distressed and especially disabled people of the country.

Bangladesh National Social Welfare Council provides education grants to poor meritorious students,” State Minister Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru said.

Expressing good wish and hope to continue such grants in the future along with increasing the allocation in this sector, the state minister said, “Students with disabilities are invincible.

They overcame various adversities and got the opportunity to get admission into the country’s largest university.

The grant given to 52 especially disabled students from the Ministry is a small amount but it will serve as an inspiration for you.”

The DU Vice-Chancellor expressed the hope that those students will build them as smart citizens after overcoming all challenges.

“We can fulfil the SDG’s goal if we can include those especially disabled people in all sectors,” he added.
