“We have taken to the streets. We have conducted road march, rallies with the people of the country.

The speech is clear, there will be no election under Sheikh Hasina (prime minister),”
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said at a rally in the capital’s Abdullahpur.

Mirza Fakhrul said, “This government has not given chances to the people to elect their representatives through applying voting rights.

This government used to snatch everything.

The whole world is seeking a fair election in Bangladesh under a neutral government.

But this government tried to hold polls staying in power showing the constitution.

But which constitution is this? They have destroyed the constitution by cutting repeatedly,” the BNP leader said.

He said the government is preventing Khaleda Zia from seeking vital medical treatment abroad, even though it has become a matter of life and death for her.

“We haven’t forgotten that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was granted permission to seek treatment in America for an ear issue during the caretaker government,” Mirza Fakhrul said.

The government is preventing Khaleda Zia from seeking vital medical treatment abroad, even though it has become a matter of life and death for her, he said.

The 78-year-old former prime minister Khaleda Zia has been grappling with several health issues, including liver cirrhosis, arthritis, diabetes, kidney, lung, heart, and eye problems.

Mirza Fakhrul said, “Begum Khaleda Zia is currently the most oppressed and deprived individual in the country. She is being held captive as an act of political vengeance by the government.”

BNP staged two rallies in the capital on Friday, marking the third day of the party’s ongoing 17-day movement to press home their one-point demand for the resignation of the current government and the release of party Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

The rally organised by Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP commenced on the grounds adjacent to Abdullah Polwel Market at around 3pm on Friday.

Mirza Abbas said that the people across the country raged against the misrule of the Awami League.

“They people of the country no more accept this government in power.

They will never allow this government to hold polls remaining in power,” Mirza Abbas said.

Later, the party extended the programme till 5 October and announced a nationwide rally on Sunday to demand Khaleda Zia’s release and treatment abroad.
