Man to die for killing wife in Kishoreganj

A tribunal in Kishoreganj on Thursday sentenced a young man named Sohel Mia (25 ) to death for killing his wife.

The Special Judge Mohammad Habibullah of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal gave the verdict in the presence of the accused. The convict was also fined Taka One lakh.

According to the case diary (CD), Sabina Akhtar, daughter of Idris Mia, married Sohel Mia, son of Alal Mia at Pagalshi area in Jaysiddhi Union of Itna Upazila in 2020.

After the marriage, Sabina’s father gave Taka two lakh along with gold ornaments, TV set, fridge and furnitureas dowry to Sohel’s father.

After a few days, Sohel Mia again demanded Taka One lakh to buy a van.

As Sabina’s father failed to meet the demand, Sohel started torturing Sabina mentally and physically.

On the night of April 22, 2021, Sabina was suffocated by her husband.

Later, the police recovered the body.

On that day Sabina’s father Idris Mia filed a case with Itna Police Station accusing Sabina’s husband Sohel Mia and mother-in-law Phulbanu.

On August 24 of the same year, the then Inspector (Investiga-tion) of Itna Police Mohammad Ahsan Habib filed a charge sheet in the court accusing Sohel Mia.
