Madukhali (Faridpur) Correspondent :

The Madukhali Upazila Health Complex of Faridpur is a 31-bed hospital built in 1996 on 3 acres of 84 percent land. Realizing the importance of the hospital, on October 5, 2013, the then Faridpur-1 Constituency MP Abdur Rahman laid the foundation stone of the hospital with the aim of increasing it to 50 beds.

The 50-bed hospital building was constructed at a cost of Tk 10.5 million in 2013 by the contractor.

Which was handed over by the contractor to the hospital authorities on June 15, 2015.

The 50-bed four-storey hospital building was inaugurated on March 29, 2017 by Hon’ble Prime Minister Janneti Sheikh Hasina to upgrade Madukhali Upazila Health Complex from 31 beds to 50 beds.

Although almost 7 years have passed since its opening, its activities have not started yet.

In this regard, Dr. Madukhali Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer.

Md. Yusuf Ali said that it is not possible to launch the 50 beds due to lack of necessary manpower and financial approval of the ministry.

Meanwhile, he said, although there is no shortage of doctors in the system of 31 beds, the medical services are currently running due to the problem of other manpower shortages.

At present, the pressure of dengue patients and general patients have to provide medical care to hundreds of patients every day.

He said that a demand letter has been sent to the District Civil Surgeon to meet the manpower crisis last month as well.

Every month I send demand letters for manpower shortage.

He said that the 31-bed hospital has a total of 59 positions including health inspector, health assistant, ward boy, nanny, gardener, night guard sweeper, but there are only 30 people here.

5 of them are sick. In spite of this crisis, we have to suffer due to the availability of doctors to provide medical services.

Madukhali Hospital is located adjacent to the Dhaka-Khulna highway, so the number of patients is always high. It is located with 11 unions and one municipality of the upazila with any road accident.

For that purpose a trauma unit needs to be set up in the hospital. It has the necessary infrastructure. But due to lack of manpower and equipment it is not possible to launch.

There is a health complex and three sub-centers for about 4 million people in this upazila.
