The workers of different groups of BCL stopped the trucks and took away these consignments. However, shipments were coming safely after Ramadan.
The looting workers managed to get tons after tons of sugar and even after arresting the smugglers, the smuggling of sugar cannot be stopped in any way.
The wholesale market of Sylhet, Kalighat, is about one and a half crore worth of stolen sugar bought and sold every day, traders said.
In addition, these sugars are sent to different parts of the country in bags with stickers of local companies, especially Tir, Fresh.
According to the sources of border area residents and law enforcement forces, the stolen goods entered Sylhet through hundreds of places along the border of Jaintapur, Jokiganj, Kanaighat, Goainghat, Companyganj and Bianibazar upazilas of the district.
At least 1,000 smugglers in the border area are involved in this work.
Locals complain that there are often reports of the seizure of stolen sugar, but it is very less compared to the amount of smuggling.
According to various sources, sometimes by avoiding the eyes of the BGB, sometimes the stolen goods enter through a special system. And this special system is the manage system.
Along with this, various local sources said that the smugglers are continuing their trade by giving a large amount of ‘Bakhra’ to the leaders and workers of a political student organization and the officials concerned in each police station area.
On the other hand, local agents extort lakhs of rupees daily from not only sugar but also cattle and buffaloes coming through the border.
According to their statistics, 6,000 taka is received from a pair of buffaloes and 4,000 taka from a cow in the name of BGB.
Besides, 1000 taka is being taken from each cow in the name of police and 500 taka in the name of DB police.
If this money is manipulated, the problem will happen.

Recently, OC Tajul Islam joined Jaintapur and held separate meetings with local journalists, 17 parganas and political leaders.
He requested everyone’s cooperation to stop smuggling in these meetings.
Pargana teachers who participated in the meeting said that even though the OC talked about stopping smuggling, we were not satisfied with it.
Because in the past all OCs said the same thing.
But no one kept a word instead they themselves got involved with the smugglers.
Now in Jaintapur cow and buffalo smuggling is rampant.
Especially, 500 to 1000 cows and buffaloes are coming down every night from 5 points of Tamabil route including Jaintapur, Asampara, Sreepur.
Poached animals are destroying people’s houses and farmland.
Besides, cows and buffaloes are being brought down through 5 points in Lalakhal area of the upazila.
Due to the lack of corridors in these areas, people are getting annoyed due to bringing cows and buffaloes over the roads and cropland.
No one dares to openly protest because of fear. Those who protest are sued.
A year ago, members of Jaintapur Union Parishad and local dignitaries complained to various departments including the police.
The administration has been silent on the allegations.
On the contrary, those who complained were harassed in various ways, said the angry crowd of the area.
According to local journalists in Jaintapur, smuggling is taking over Jaintapur.
After the cattle and buffaloes come through the border, they are taken to Banglabazar, Anandabazar, Manjiltala, Thakunkhai markets on the border.
Later at night they were taken to Haripur market by boat.
Apart from this, cows and buffaloes brought down through 5 points of Lalakhal are taken to Darbast Bazar through Vitrikhel, Charikata area.
From there, these animals are sold in different parts of the country.
Despite all the drama with sugar, the smuggling of sugar has not stopped.
However, Chhatra League is no longer in Chinika as before.
However, several sources say that even though Chhatra League is not open, the sugar that is coming through the border comes to Sylhet as a local market.
According to the media wing of Sylhet District Police, 51 cases have been registered in the month of August under the Special Powers Act in connection with smuggling. 81 people have been arrested.
Out of this, the police registered 49 cases and arrested 78 people.
The recovered goods include Indian sugar 91 thousand kg, Indian Sheikh Nasir bidi about 4 lakh pieces, Indian tea 1600 kg, Indian cow 40, Indian buffalo 48, different types of cloth 1 thousand 810 pieces and other goods.
Sylhet District Police Media Focal Officer and Assistant Superintendent of Police Samrat Talukder said that operations are being carried out constantly in cases of smuggling.
Police are active in curbing smuggling. SMP Deputy Commissioner (North) Azbahar Ali Sheikh said that 144 metric tons of illegal sugar was seized from January to August 15 this year as part of the city police.
At this time, the police arrested 50 cases and 82 smugglers.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of SMP, the stolen goods enter Sylhet through more than a hundred places bordering Jokiganj, Kanaighat, Goainghat, Companiganj, Jaintapur, and Biyanibazar upazilas of the district.
