The country on Tuesday witnessed more 11 deaths from dengue fever in the last 24 hours while 2,956 patients were hospitalised in different districts at the same time.
The number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh reached to 752 this year with the new deaths.
Data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said, among the new patients, 911 were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and the rest outside the capital city.
Meanwhile, a total of 10,015 dengue patients, including 4,222 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
The DGHS has recorded 154,228 dengue cases and 143,461 recoveries so far across the country.
DGHS data said, in the first 10 days of September, Dengue claimed the lives of 137 people across the country; as many as 24,520 cases were reported during the same period.
Meanwhile, the UN World Health Organisation (WHO) urged rapid action as dengue cases in Bangladesh are on the rise sharply.
“The higher incidence of dengue is taking place in the context of an unusual episodic amount of rainfall, combined with high temperatures and high humidity, which have resulted in an increased mosquito population throughout the country,” WHO said.
Besides, UNICEF is intensifying its support to the efforts of the Government of Bangladesh to contain the dengue outbreak in the country.
