‘Operation for bombers’

A special intelligence team, including members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), has prepared a list of 1,470 masterminds of the BNP-led 20-party alliance for their alleged involvement in violence across the country during the nonstop nationwide blockade and hartal programme.
Sources at the law enforcement agencies said that the team has already started work to arrest them.
 “The operation underway will be known as `Operation for bombers.’ The activists of the 20-party alliance, including Jamaat-e-Islam, have been attacking the law enforcers with crude bombs for days together,” the sources said.
The Dhaka Division tops the list with 298 masterminds. Of them, four are in Manikganj, seven in Mymensingh, six in Narayanganj, 14 in Netrakona, seven in Sherpur, six in Jamalpur, nine in Tangail, nine in Gazipur and five in Narsingdi and the rest in Dhaka district.
Meanwhile, the special intelligence team has already identified at least 70 masterminds and instigators for attacking with Crude bombs and petrol bombs in different part of the capital city
At least 211 masterminds are in Rajshahi division. Of them, 21 are in Naogaon, 22 in Pabna, 17 each in Sirajganj and Bogra, seven in Natore, 17 in Joypurhat, 18 in Chapainawabganj and the remaining in Rajshahi district.
The number of masterminds in Khulna division is 111. Among them, eight are in Jessore, 23 in Jhenidah, seven in Norail, five in Kushtia, seven in Bagerhat and the remaining in Khulna district.
Of the 192 masterminds in Rangpur division, five are in Kurigram, seven in Gaibandha, 17 in Dinajpur, seven in Thakurgaon, five in Lalmonirhat and six in Nilphamari and the remaining in Rangpur district. In Chittagong division, the special team has identified 251 masterminds. Among them, six are in Brahmanbaria, five in Feni, six in Lakshmipur, seven in Comilla, five in Chandpur, 14 in Cox’s Bazar, eight in Noakhali and the remaining in Chittagong district.
So far 156 masterminds have been identified in Barisal division. Of them, eight are in Jhalokathi, five in Pirojpur, four in Patuakhali and 15 in Bhola and the rest in Barisal district. The Sylhet division has 123 masterminds. Among them, 18 in Moulvibazar, 17 in Sunamganj, 13 in Habiganj and the remainder in Sylhet district. Colonel Zia-ul-Ahsan, Additional Director General of RAB said that the special team would verify the list of masterminds and instigators. “Several teams of law enforcers and RAB are currently working to stop the occurrence of such incidents,” he added.
Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, State Minister for Home affairs, told this reporter on Thursday that the government ordered the law enforcement agencies that they would get necessary orders soon to take stern action to prevent the ongoing sabotage and maintain the law and order. “The people involved in sabotages have already been identified,” he said.
