No plans of meeting political parties: EC

Staff Reporter :
The Election Commission (EC) has no plan to sit with political parties again before the 12th parliamentary polls which are scheduled to hold end of this year or earlier the next year, said EC commissioner Md Alamgir.

He said this to reporters at the Election Commission office in Agargaon in the capital on Monday.

Md Alamgir said that polling for the national election will be held in the last week of December this year or in the first week of January next year.

“We are preparing as per the roadmap for the parliamentary elections,” he added.

The EC will hold a meeting on September 13 regarding the election.

EC Alamgir said: “We will take feedback from those who have knowledge about the election or have been part of elections at different times.”

When asked what they would do if BNP does not join the meeting, the EC secretary said: “This is not our concern. We are preparing as per the Constitution.

This is a political matter so the political parties will deal with it.”

Regarding security concerns amid no installation of CCTV cameras, he said: “As per law, there is no requirement to have CCTV cameras. We have used CCTV cameras in the past only to look at allegations of election irregularities.”

This election commissioner also mentioned that it was not possible to manage numerous amounts of CCTV cameras required for 300 seats in the election.
