Fakhrul asks AL leaders to hang PM’s selfie with Biden around their necks
Staff Reporter :
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday strongly criticized the ruling Awami League (AL) leaders’ excitement regarding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s selfie with US President Joe Biden, suggesting that they should hang this selfie around their necks.
“Their (AL leaders’) excitement about the PM’s selfie with US President proved that the AL has reached a point of bankruptcy and destitution where they are celebrating as if they have already won the election just because they took a selfie with Biden.
They should hang it around their necks.
It would be beneficial for them,” Mirza Fakhrul said during a program at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on Sunday.
“It is unfortunate for the nation that people focus on such trifling
matters instead of addressing fundamental issues,” he said.
He referred to a statement by Obaidul Quader, asking what Fakhrul would say now.
Mirza Fakhrul responded by advising them to wear the selfie around their necks as it could be helpful for them in next polls.
“Without a fair election, no Biden or selfies could save them,” he said.
The BNP leader pointed out that some days ago, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had mentioned that America was demanding the transfer of Saint Martins Island to them.
“She stated then that since America was not getting the island, they wanted to oust her from power. Whether this meant that they had handed over Saint Martins Island,” Mirza Fakhrul questioned.
He said also that the sanctions against RAB remained unchanged despite the selfies, and the visa policy had not been changed yet. Bangladesh was not invited to host a new democracy convention for this purpose.
Health minister, Dhaka’s mayors should resign for failure to check dengue: Meanwhile, the BNP demanded an immediate resignation of the health minister and mayors of Dhaka’s two city corporations for their failures to check dengue situation.
The party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the demand at a press conference on the country’s dengue situation at its central office at Naya Paltan in Dhaka.
He alleged that the dengue situation had taken a serious turn due to the government’s total corruption in the health sector.
“The government has failed miserably to prevent dengue due to their incompetence and corruption.
The Dhaka North City Corporation and the Dhaka South City Corporations are now completely silent over the issue. Bangladesh is trembling with dengue fever,” he said.
“On an average, around 20 people are dying every day,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
He alleged that the number of dengue infected people and deaths were much higher than the data we get from the government every day.
The BNP leader urged the party leaders and activists to come forward to act effectively to prevent dengue.
