Qatar Charity (QC), with the support of the benefactors in Qatar, implemented 50 income-generating projects in the northern districts of Bangladesh to empower the poor and widow families economically.

As a part of its ‘Income Generating Project (IGP)’, QC provided farmlands, shops, and fisheries to the vulnerable families of three districts, Rangpur, Lalmonirhat, and Thakurgaon, which brought normalcy to their economic life.

Sadequl Islam, one of the beneficiaries of Rangpur district, said, “I was unemployed for a long time after my graduation.

I was trying for a suitable job but failed to get it. I didn’t have any piece of land so that I could produce crops to earn livelihood.

In this circumstance, I received a fisheries project from Qatar Charity.”

“Now I stay in my own house and I can produce fish from my project. I am happy now,” Sadequl added.

Farida Begum, 52, a resident of Aditmari upazila under Lalmonirhat district, said, “I became a widow in 1998.

My husband worked on daily wages. He had no permanent means to earn money regularly.

That’s why, after his death, I struggled a lot with my children. It’s my good luck that I have recently received a farmland from the Qatar Charity.”

She further said, “Now we are cultivating this land and getting crops from that. This is helping our lives a lot.”

In her part, Aduri Begum, 43, a widow of Gangachara upazila under Rangpur district, said, “I did not have any land except my homestead and my financial condition was so poor.

Recently, I have received a farmland from the Qatar Charity so that I can improve my financial conditions by cultivating seasonal crops.”

I am so thankful to the Almighty and to the donors for their support to provide livelihood opportunities, added Aduri Begum.

Pavel Miah, 20, an honours second-year student of Rangpur Government College, said, “I have received a shop from Qatar Charity which is fully equipped with necessary commodities.

Besides studying, I run the shop which made me self-dependent.”

In the last 3 years, Qatar Charity established 120 income-generating projects in many areas of Bangladesh aiming to provide livelihood opportunities for the beneficiary families to uplift their financial conditions with respect and dignity.
