EC opts for seminars ahead of parliament polls

The Election Commission (EC) is going to organise seminar type programme ahead of next parliamentary polls and in line with the decision the commission is scheduled to hold a seminar on 13 September.
EC related officials have confirmed that EC has a plan to hold the seminar programme in five phases. After the first seminar, the EC will decide on the next one.
EC source said September 13 seminar will be held with the title- ‘The Expectation and Reality about next Parliamentary Election.’
Eight noted persons were invited there as discussants while 20 to 25 will be present as participants. At the end of seminar there will be an open house discussion session.
EC has invited the eminent persons as discussants comprising former election commissioner, former secretaries, university professors and senior journalists who have been participating in various TV talk shows and writing articles in newspapers.
EC source said EC’s aim of the seminar is to know the noted citizens views and expectation about the next Jatiya Sangsad election.
EC wants to see the impact of September 13, the first round seminar, discussion on the electoral process.
If the outcome of the seminar turns positive, the EC will hold next four seminars on various polls related issues.
However, the EC did not clarify whether they are going to sit with political parties again or not on the issue of next polls.
