DB to probe 55-kg gold missing case

The case of theft of 55 kg of gold from the vault of the Customs House warehouse at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is set to be transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The transfer of the case from the airport police station to the Uttara Division of the DB is underway, said Towhidul Islam, additional deputy commissioner of DMP Uttara Zone, on Tuesday.
ADC Towhidul said several persons were questioned over the issue, however, none was arrested.
Earlier, some 55 kilograms of gold have reportedly been stolen from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s Customs House’s godown.
Gold bars, ornaments, and valuables seized from passengers are kept in the godown of
Dhaka Customs House.
During the calculation of the gold, customs officials found that a box containing 55kg of gold was missing from the godown.
Officials say someone broke the locker and stole the gold. The worth of the theft gold is estimated at Tk 45 crore.
Assistant Revenue Officer Sohrab Hossain filed the case with the Airport Police Station on Sunday accusing unidentified persons.
A five-member probe body was also formed in this regard.
