55kg of gold missing, 4 security guards being investigated

The airport police have taken four security guards to the police station for questioning regarding the disappearance of gold from the customs house’s own warehouse at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The four securities have been identified as Rezaul Karim, Mohammad Mozammel Haque, Afzal Hossain and Niamat Howladar. They all have been working in customs.
Towhidul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said, “Customs authority has filed a case in this connection. We will try to find out the fact after an investigation.”
On behalf of the customs, an investigation committee has been formed over the gold missing incident.
According to the case statement, 48 DM bars recovered in 2023, weighing 8.2 kg and 389 DM bars seized at different times from 2020 to 2023, with a total weight of 47.49 kg were stolen by breaking the vault locker.
Someone broke and stole the described gold bars and gold ornaments from the steel cupboard locker of the godown between last Friday (September 1) mid night and Saturday (September 2) morning, airport sources said.
Sources said four assistant revenue officers and four security members were responsible for the warehouse inside the airport.
Among them, four government revenue officers are Masood Rana, Saiful Islam Shahed, Shahidul Islam and Akhtar Sheikh.
