Trial against Dr. Yunus will continue: Shahriar

Staff Reporter :
Despite the appeals of numerous eminent global leaders and Nobel laureates, urging the government to refrain from pressuring Nobel laureate Dr. Yunus, the government continues to assert that he is financially acting against the interests of the country.

“Dr. Muhammad Yunus or his associates are still spending money against Bangladesh,” State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam said on Tuesday.

Following a program on Bangladesh-South Korea cooperation held in a hotel in the capital, the state minister made the remark while his attention was drawn to the statement issued by more than a hundred Nobel laureates and over four hundred prominent individuals from various fields around the world.

Participating in a question and answer session with journalists on the occasion, State Minister Shahriar Alam stated, “An international media requires over two million dollars (more than Taka 20 crore) to place a two-page advertisement.

Such an amount is spent just like an advertisement, involving signatures of a few people…”

Commenting on the signed statement, Shahriar Alam also mentioned that over half of the signatories are retired and said, “Dr. Muhammad Yunus or his associates are still spending money against Bangladesh. There is no doubt about it.”

Regarding the ongoing legal case against Dr. Muhammad Yunus for violating labour laws and committing financial self-harm, the State Minister stated that none of the cases against him had any influence on the government and they won’t have any impact in the future.
