Abduction, torture of NBA official, 2 remanded

A Dhaka court yesterday placed two people including former driver of National Board of Revenue (NBR) Joint Commissioner Masuma Khatun in a case lodged for abducting and subsequently torturing her, on one-day remand each.

The remanded accused are- driver Md Masud and his cohort Abdul Jalil alias Ponu.

The court also sent another accused Hafiz alias Shahni to the jail.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan of Dhaka CMM Court passed the order after police produced the three accused before the court and pleaded to place Masud and Jalil on seven-day remand each.

Police, however, pleaded to keep Hafiz behind bar till conclusion of investigation about the incident.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the trio in separate raids conducted in Sreepur, Gazipur and Sabujbagh areas in the capital on Friday night.

Another court on August 26 sent three other accused Saiful Islam, Yasin Arafat Raju and Abu Bakkar Siddique to the jail as police produced them after the end of their one-day remand in the case.
