The Petrol Pump Owners’ Association has threatened to go for an indefinite strike across the country from September 3 if their three-point demand is not met by August 31.
The association announced the decision on Sunday after a special general meeting held in the Dhaka city, said a press release.
The demands included fixing a 7.5 per cent commission on fuel oil sales and issuing a gazette notification referring petrol pump business persons as commission agents.
The association also demanded no value-added tax on truck and lorry fares, and issuing a gazette notification as per the pledges and another gazette for the economic life of tanks and lorries over 25 years.
They also threatened to cease collection and transportation of fuel oil if their demands were not met during this period.
Bangladesh Petrol Pump Owners’ Association central committee’s secretary general Mizanur Rahman Ratan, said that they got 3.45 per cent commission for a litre of diesel and 4.57 per cent for petrol and octane.
Earlier, Bangladesh Tank Lorry Owners’ Association and Bangladesh Petroleum Dealers Distributors Agents and Petrol Pump Owner’s Association announced an indefinite strike from August 1 on the same ground.
The associations, however, postponed the strike programme as Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation sought 15-days from August 1 to review their demands, Mizanur said.
‘But the BPC have not taken any step except delaying.
So, we give an ultimatum again,’ he added.
