BTRC official held for rape

BTRC Deputy Director Sanjib Kumar Singh has been arrested by the Dhanmondi police station on charges of rape, cheating and torture by secretly recording a video after having a relationship with a woman hiding his real identity.

Police said that videos and pictures of intimate moments were also recovered from his mobile phone.

Parvez Islam, Officer-in-charge (OC) of Dhanmondi police station, confirmed the matter to the media saying that a woman lodged a case against Sanjeeb Kumar Singh, deputy director of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act-2000 with Dhanmondi police station on Friday. Sanjeeb was arrested on the same day.

On Saturday, Sanjib Kumar Singh was produced before a court seeking remand.

But the court allowed police to question him at the jail gate, OC said.

According to the case report, Sanjib first developed an illegal relationship with the victim in 2013, later several times victim was raped and that was secretly videotaped.

In 2014, Sanjib tactfully took the woman to a flat at Dhanmondi and allegedly raped her there and the videoed the incident.

Since then, he has violated the woman for six to seven years threatening her to spread the videos on social media, said case statement.

The victim in her statement alleged that Sanjib called her on August 15 last at the Dhanmondi flat and raped her and attempted to kill her.

The woman also complained that she was physically tortured and confined for long time.
