Arms manufacturing factory found in hills, two held

Members of the elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have unearthed an illegal arms manufacturing factory in a remote hill area of Chattogram.

During the drive, two people along with huge arms were detained.

The arrested two persons have been identified as Jahangir Alam (39) son of late Nurul Alam of Chinnamul area of Sitakunda upazila and Iman (24) son of Yusuf of the same area.

RAB-7 Senior Assistant Director (Media) Tapas Karmakar confirmed this information and said that based on confidential information, it has been learned that some people are making and selling firearms illegally in that garden house since long before.

The operation was conducted on Tuesday based on the information.

During the operation, three local songs, a ramada and various tools for making weapons were recovered from a white plastic bag in a tin shed garden house.

Jahangir had long been involved in making arms and supplying those to the criminals including pirates, drug peddlers and members of robber gangs, said Tapash.

They were living in the area in the disguise of farmers, the RAB officer said.

Besides, Jahangir was wanted in several cases including that of robbery and drugs, he added.
