Mahmudullah returns to practice

Experienced all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad returned to the practice at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Wednesday .

Riyad was not included in the 17-member Bangladesh squad, which will take part in the upcoming ACC Asia Cup.

Marking the Asia Cup, the training camp of Bangladesh is going on.

But yesterday was the rest day for the cricketers, who will compete in the Asia Cup.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has a plan to run a practice sessions for the back up cricketers, who may call by the BCB for the ICC World Cup, which is scheduled to be start from October 5 in India.

Soumya Sarkar, Zakir Hasan, Mosaddek Hossain, Khaled Ahmed, Taijul Islam, Mahmudullah Riyad and Saif Hassan are the members of the BCB’s back up squad for the World Cup.

Riyad was absent in the training camp.

Later, it was known to the newsmen that he was absent in the training camp for personal reasons.

Actually Riyad could not take part in the coaching camp as his mother was ill.

Riyad took part in the running and fielding session at the ‘Home of Cricket’ yesterday.

He was looking very happy during the training session.

Earlier, there was a rumour that Mahmudullah Riyad was ousted from the central contract with BCB.

But Chairman of the Cricket Operations Committee of the BCB Jalal Yunus said, ” There is no base that Riyad was ousted from the contract between BCB and Riyad.

Riyad has signed an agreement with the BCB.

The period of the contract is one year.

The last date of contract between the BCB and Mahmudullah Riyad is December 31.”

Mahmudullah Riyad scored 4950 runs playing 218 One Day International (ODI) matches.

His highest score is 128 (not out) with an average of 35.35.

He hit three centuries and 27 half-centuries.

His strike rate is 76.17.
