DU student commits suicide

A Dhaka University (DU) student was found dead on Monday, hanging from a ceiling fan in his Hall room.

Police recovered the body of Monju Sheikh from the room No 165 of Salimullah Muslim Hall of the university.

Monju was student of the Bangla Department of 2016-17 academic year. His village home is in Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj district.

Earlier, a former female student of DU named Ritu Karmaker (27) reportedly committed suicide on Saturday by taking pesticide at Azimpur in Dhaka.

Farhad, one of his roommate, said, “We left the room in the morning. Manju bhai was sleeping then. When we returned at the room, Manju was found hanging from the celling fan.

“I can’t say why he committed suicide,” he said.

Informed by the students, the Hall administration came to the room and called the police.

“By informed, we came and saw the dead body hanging from the fan. Later, his body was brought down with the help of administration,” SI Md Al Amin of Shahabag Police Station said.

“Talking to the roommates, I learned that he came to the room in the afternoon and found his body hanging in the empty room,” the SI added.

“It is a regal procedure. The truth could be known after conducting the actions of law enforcement agencies and doctors,” DU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman said.
