Ideal college scandal: Mushtaq gets anticipatory bail

The High Court on Thursday granted anticipatory bail for six weeks to Khandaker Mushtaq Ahmed, a donor member of the board of directors of the reputed educational institution Ideal School and College of Motijheel in the capital who married an eleventh grader of the institution, in a case filed on charge of raping by trapping that student.
However, the court asked to determine the age of the student by forming a board with experts. It also asked the concerned bodies to keep the girl in a safe custody till her age is determined.
The High Court bench of Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Justice A K M Zahirul Huq passed the order after hearing a bail petition filed by Khandaker Mushtaq.
Earlier Khandaker Mushtaq filed the anticipatory bail petition with the High Court in the case. However, a divisionbench refused to admit the petition on Wednesday. Then he moved the new bench which passed the order after hearing. Khandaker Mushtaq was present at the court during the hearing of the bail petition. The High Court also heard the statement of the student. She told the court that she is an adult and willingly married.
Advocate Mohammad Sayed Ahmed Raza and Advocate Sohrab Hossain appeared in the court hearing on behalf of Khandaker Mushtaq, while Advocate Eunus Ali Akond represented the complainant. Deputy Attorney General Md Abul Hashem and Assistant Attorney General Mahfuzur Rahman represented the state in the hearing.
Later Assistant Attorney General Mahfuzur Rahman said, “The High Court ordered to keep the victim girl in safe custody until her age is determined. Khandaker Mushtaq has been granted six weeks anticipatory bail.”
Khandaker Mushtaq married an eleventh grader of the Ideal School and College of Motijheel in the capital in last March.
Student’s father on August 1 filed a case with the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-8 in Dhaka against Khandaker Mushtaq (60) on charge of raping by trapping her daughter.
In the case, allegations of aiding and abetting the rape were brought against institution’s Principal Fauzia Rashedi. After accepting the statement of the plaintiff (student’s father) the court ordered the Gulshan Police Station to record the case. Accordingly, the police registered the case.
Earlier he filed a kidnapping case against Khandaker Mushtaq on June 22 this year in Thakurgaon.
Several video footages of the eleventh grade female student of the Ideal School and College of Motijheel with Khandaker Mushtaq have gone viral on social media recently. The guardians of the institution became furious after the release of such a relationship between a senior member of the board of directors and a minor student.
