Staff Reporter :
Dengue claimed 10 more lives in 24 hours till Tuesday morning, raising the fatalities of the mosquito-borne disease in the country to 426 in the ongoing year.

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said 1,984 more patients were hospitalized with the viral fever during the period.

Among the new patients, 731 were admitted to hospitals in the capital city and the rest outside the capital, indicating a worsening situation across the country, the DGHS data showed.

According to the DGHS data, a total of 9,117 dengue patients, including 4,010 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.

So far, DGHS has reported 89,875 dengue cases and 80,332 recoveries this year.

Meanwhile, the UN health affairs body the World Health Organization (WHO) urged swift action as dengue cases are on surge in Bangladesh.

“The higher occurrence of dengue is taking place in the context of an unusual episodic amount of rainfall, combined with high temperatures and high humidity, which have resulted in an increased mosquito breeding throughout the country,” WHO said recently in its observation over Bangladesh’s dengue situation.
