Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique on Tuesday said if we believe in democracy and if we believe in multi-party democracy, then we must be tolerant to each other. I believe in democracy but not tolerant, it cannot be called the practice of democracy, he further said.
He said this while addressing a discussion as the chief guest marking the National Mourning Day in the Supreme Court auditorium.
The Chief Justice said, “Those who question about Bangabandhu’s leadership, I want to tell them how much was lacking in his leadership qualities. If there is no shortage, then by acknowledging the Ekattor (libaration war), by acknowledging his (Bangabandhu) leadership and by accepting the constitution of Bangladesh, we do politics.”
He further said, “If we recognise the Ekattor, if we accept the constitution of Bangladesh, if we accept Bangabandhu, and then, if we do politics, if we start a social policy, if we adopt a economic policy, judicial policy and if we hold democracy in our mind, then the distance between us will reduced a lot.”
Appellate Division judges, Justice Obaidul Hassan,Justice Borhanuddin, Justice M Enayetur Rahim, High Court division judges and other Supreme Court officials were present in the programme.
