Delwar Hossain Sayeedi dies

Internationally recognised Islamic scholar and orator Maulana Delwar Hossain Sayeedi passed away on Monday while undergoing treatment for a cardiac arrest at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). He was 83.
Earlier on Sunday, the doctor at Kashimpur jail took Sayeedi to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical
College Hospital immediately after he complained of chest pain around 2 pm, said Shahjahan Ahmed, senior jail superintendent of Kashimpur Central Jail-1.
Later, the hospital authorities referred him to BSMMU for better treatment and he breathed his last there, said BSMMU Prof of the Cardiology Department Dr Md SM Mostafa Zaman.
Delwar Hossain Sayeedi was convicted of war crimes and sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Feb 28, 2013.
Later on Sept 17, 2014, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court reduced the sentence to imprisonment until death.
With the allegation of hurting religious sentiment, he was arrested on June 2, 2010 from his residence in Shaheedbag area in the capital.
His son Masud Sayeedi told the media that his father’s health condition was better early in the morning, but he fell sick suddenly and passed away at 8:40pm.
