BNM, BSP finally get EC registration

The Election Commission (EC) has finally recognized the two fanciful new political parties, the Bangladesh Nationalist Movement and Bangladesh Supreme Party as registered political parties.

The commission has unanimously decided to grant registration to these two new political parties, says a press release signed by Election Commission Director (Public Relations) Md Shariful Alam. The BNM’s electoral symbol is now anchor and the BSP’s symbol is ektara (a one-stringed musical instrument).

The decision comes after the Election Commission held a hearing on the registration of the two parties at Nirbachan Bhaban on Monday.

Representatives of the BNM and BSP and complainants presented their arguments there.
According to EC’s law, unregistered political party cannot take part in the parliamentary polls. Now the two political parties will participate in next Jatiya Sangsad election.

Earlier, ninety-three parties applied for fresh registration. Form that the EC has selected 12 political parties out of 93 after conducting a preliminary verification.

EC Secretary Md Jahangir Alam told reporters that the commission found the documents submitted by these parties to be accurate, which will now be checked at the field level.

The 12 parties selected after the primary scrutiny are – AB Party (Amar Bangladesh Party), Bangladesh Nationalist Movement, Bangladesh Humanist Party, Gono Odhikar Parishad, Nagorik Oikya, Bangladesh Sanatan Party, Bangladesh Supreme Party, Bangladesh Labour Party, Bangladesh Minority Janata Party, Bangladesh People’s Party, Democratic Party, and Bangladesh Liberal Democratic Party.
