Hridoy shines for Jaffna to win over Colombo in LPL

Towhid Hridoy of Jaffna Kings shone with the willow to win by six wickets over Colombo Strikers in their T20 Cricket match of the Lanka Premier League (LP)L) at Pallekele in Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

Towhid Hridoy remained unbeaten with 14 runs.

He hit three fours in his nine-ball innings.

Chasing Colombo Strikers 146 for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 20 overs, Jaffna Kings romped home making 150 for the loss of four wickets when they had 33 balls to spare.

Jaffna Kings had a good start with two openers Nishan Madushka and Rahmatullah Gurbaz put on together 58 runs in the opening stand before Rahmatullah Gurbaz (39) was dismissed by Matheesha Pathirana.

Madushka and Charith Asalanka built another notable partnership contributing together 39 runs in the second wicket stand before Asalanka (12) was dismissed by Lakshkan Sandakan when Jaffna’s score was 97 for the loss of two wickets.

After Asalanka’s dismissal, Madushka and Thisara Perera added 30 runs for the third wicket partnership before Perera (17) was bowled out by Nassem Shah when Jaffna’s total was 127 for the loss of three wickets.

After Perera’s departure, Madushka could stay at the crease for a short period as he was bowled out by Naseem Shah when Jaffna’s score was 128 for the loss of four wickets.

Then, Towhid Hridoy and David Miller guided their team to reach the wiinning spot adding together 15 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket partnerswhip.

Mr. Extra contributed 21 runs to the Jaffna total.

It may be mentioned that Towhid Hriidoy scored 155 runs playing six matches for Jaffna Kings in LPL.

His average was 38.75 and his strike rate was 135.96.

Jaffna Kings wanted that Towhid Hridoy will play for Jaffna Kins before the ending of LPL.

But the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has issued No Objection Certificate (NOC) for Towhid Hridoy until August 8.

The coaching camp of the Bangladesh preliminary cricket squad has been going on as the ACC Asia Cup and ICC Cricket World Cup are knocking at the door.

So, Towhid Hridoy could not take part in the LPL.

As Towhid showed an outstanding performance in the LPL, he will get chance to play in the franchise based cricket competitions at home and abroad in future.
