Woman to die for killing daughter-in-law

A tribunal in Kishoreganj on Thursday sentenced a 52-year-old woman to death for burning her daughter-in-law to death.
The Women and Children Torture Prevention Tribunal-1, Special Judge (District Judge) Mohammad Habibullah announced the verdict in the presence of the accused. The tribunal also fined the convict Tk. 50,000.
The accused named Parul Akhter (52) is the wife of Anowarul Haque of Karimganj upazila of Kishoreganj.
The tribunal acquitted the other two accused as the charges brought against them were not proved, Special PP in Kishoreganj, Advocate MA Afzal confirmed the verdict.
According to the Case Diary (CD) , on May 2, 2015, the in-laws beat up the housewife Papia Akhter and set her on fire by pouring kerosene on her body for dowry.
Later she died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s Burn Unit.
The victim Papia’s brother filed a case against the his sister husband, in-laws and mother-in-law with the Karimganj Police Station.
Later, after the investigation, Police submitted a charge sheet to the court in the name of the other three except the husband. The court announced the verdict today based on the evidences.
