The attack took place near the Teacher-student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University (DU) where at least 15 people including Nurul Haque Nur, popularly known as VP Nur, were injured.

The Odhikar Parishad leaders have been taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for primary treatment.

Earlieron Tuesday night, law enforcers carried out a raid on Nur’s house and arrested
Chhatra Odhikar Parishad’s President Bin Yamin Molla. During the raid, the members of the law enforcement agency allegedly broke down the doors and windows of the house of Nur.

“At least 10 Odhikar Porishad members have received treatment from the medical college,” Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, said.

During the occurrence, BCL DU Unit General Secretary Tanvir Hasan Saikat was present in the TSC area.

Eyewitness said that the Odhikar Parishad brought out a rally from Shahbag towards Shaheed Minar and when they reached the TSC area, the BCL leaders blocked the road and shouted slogan ‘Vuya, Vuya’. At one point BCL men attacked them and forced them to go out of the campus.

“The BCL attacked us when we went to TSC area with a procession from Shahbag to implement our pre-announced program. Many of us were injured. The injured are receiving treatment at different medical including DMCH,” Media coordinator of Odhikar Parishad Abu Hanif said.

Earlier on Tuesday night, Chattra Odhikar Parishad announced a protest rally at Raju Sculpture Memorial to protest against the attack on the opposition party, the killing of Madrasha student Hafez Rezaul and the detention of BUET students.

Shortly after this announcement, the BCL announced a human chain at the same place and time under the banner of general students demanding security from the administration and law enforcement agencies in fear of a plot by external terrorists to destabilize the campus and destroy the normal environment of education.

Although many have video footageand eyewitnesses accounts of the BCL attack, the BCL DU unit president and general secretary denied the allegation.

Tanvir Hasan Saikat said, “The attackers were not members of the BCL. I have come to know that Nur came there with a procession and involved in a quarrel.

I don’t know anything beyond this. None of the attackers are activists of Chhatra League.”

The BCL DU unit President Mazharul Kabir Shayan said that due to the relationship with Israel, general students threw out Nur from the campus.
