50 pigeons, birds died in Ishwardi after eating poisoned wheat

Over 50 pet pigeons and 3 birds have died after eating poisoned wheat sprinkled on radish land in Ishwardi. It is said that the landowner had mixed grain poison with the wheat to prevent bird attacks. The incident took place on Tuesday (August 1) afternoon in Maniknagar Matpara area of the upazila.
Local residents said that Sahabul Biswas, son of Habibur Rahman of Joynagar village, sowed radish seeds with the rent of Ishahak Biswas of Maniknagar Purbapara village. On Tuesday morning, Sahabul sprinkled poisoned wheat on the ground so that the radish seeds could not be harmed by rodents and birds. At noon, pigeons are seen sitting in the radish field and dying by eating poisoned wheat. About 30 pigeons died in the radish field. Some more pigeons are lying dead in and around the house.
A villager Amirul Islam of Maniknagar Mathpara area said, about 30 pigeons were lying dead in the radish cultivation land near our house. Several dogs took these dead pigeons. There are still about 12 to 15 left. Three pigeons are lying dead in front of the house. In addition, many birds sat on this land and ate the wheat and flew away. The death of these birds is uncertain. According to his knowledge 15 pigeons of Abul Kalam, 20 pigeons of Ambia Begum and 10 pigeons of Matiyar have died.
It is also heard that one or two pigeons of some people in the vicinity have died.
Abul Kalam said that his 15 of pigeons were died after eating poisoned wheat in the radish field.
I have informed Sahabul Biswas, the land rent farmer. He said, I will look into the matter.
Ambia Begum of Tigras said, 20 of our 35 pigeons died after eating poisoned wheat. Pigeons have been killed by poison in this land before. There should be a solution to this issue. The cultivator of the land is responsible for the death of pigeons and birds.
Accused Sahabul Biswas said that I had sown radish seeds in the land before but due to the persecution of birds, radish was not cultivated at that time. This time, I poisoned the radish immediately after sowing, so that the birds could not eat the radish. I didn’t realize that pigeons would die like this. Talked to some whose pigeons died.
Abdul Majid Bablu Malitha, Chairman of Salimpur, said that if poison is to be applied to the crop land, the people of the surrounding houses should be informed according to the rules.
A red flag should be hung on that land. I heard that Sahabul poisoned the land, but he did not obey any rules.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Mita Sarkar said that there is no need to poison while sowing radish. I don’t know why poison was given. If any complaint is received, action will be taken against the farmer from the agriculture office.
