Promising batter Towhid Hridoy shone with the willow in Lanka Premier League for his team Jaffna Kings against Dambulla Aura at Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka on Tuesday. Hridoy notched up a remarkable 24 using 20 deliveries with two fours.
Electing to bat first, Jaffna Kings scored 129 for the loss of seven wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
In reply, Dambulla Aura coasted home making 132 for the loss of two wickets when they had 22 balls to spare. Thus, Dambulla Aura recorded an easy eight-wicket victory.
Jaffna Kings had a sorrow start as opener Rahmatullah Gurbaz (14) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis off Binura Fernando when Jaffna Kings score was 20 runs.
After Gurbaz’s dismissal, opener Charith Asalanka and one-down Towhid Hridoy contributed together 55 runs for the second wicket partnership before Towhid Hridoy was caught by Alex Ross off Dhanajaya de Silva when Jaffna Kings’ total was 75 for the loss of two wickets.
After dismissal of Towhid Hridoy, batters of Jaffna Kings failed to build any notable partnership.
Charitha Asalanka was the highest scorer of his team. He hit a superb 56 from 52 deliveries including five fours and a sixer.
Binura Fernando was the highest wicket taker of Dumbulla Aura with two wickets in the space of 27 runs.
Later, Dambulla Aura made a good start with two openers Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis contributed 76 runs in the opening stand before Fernando (52) was bowled out by Viyaskanth when Dambulla Aura’s score was 76 for the loss of one wicket.
After Avishka’s dismissal, Kusal Mendis (29) could stay at the crease for a short period as he was dismissed by Wellalage when Dambulla’s total was 85 for the loss of two wickets.
Then, one-down Samarawickrama and Kusal Perera guided their team’s to anchor the winning spot.
