Integrated efforts imperative to combating drug abuse

CHAPAINAWABGANJ : Chapainawabganj District Administration and Narcotics Control Department, Chapainawabganj brought out a rally marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking from the Deputy Commissioner's Office premises on Sunday.

The International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking was observed in Chapainawabganj on Sunday. Chapainawabganj District Administration and Chapainawabganj District Office of the Narcotics Control Department have taken different programmes to mark the day.
A colourful procession was taken out from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office premises at 9-30 am.
After parading the main roads of the town the procession ended at the same venue. Later a discussion meeting was held at the Conference Room of the DC with Additional District Magistrate of Chapainawabganj Asif Ahmed in the chair.
DC of Chapainawabganj AKM Galiv Khan attended it as the chief guest while superintendent of police Saidul Hasan, commanding officer of Rahnpur battalion of 59 BGB Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria, civil surgeon Dr. SM Mahmudur Rashid and Deputy Director of Narcotics Control Department Mohammad Anisur Rahman Khan attended it as special guests.
Prizes were also distributed among the winners of different competitions held earlier.
The speakers said that where there is drugs, there would be resistance.
As per the declaration of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina we need smart citizens to build smart Bangladesh but drug is one of the main barriers, they added.
They asked all to stand against drugs and launch social movement against drugs.
Sr. Staff Reporter, Kishoreganj says : The International Day against Drug and Illicit Trafficking was observed across the country as elsewhere in the globe on Sunday with a call to build social movement and create much awareness among the people to have a drug-free society.
In Kishoreganj., Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) including. District Administration have arranged a colour full rally, discussion ,, postering, hand – bills distribution and cultural function marking the day.
DC in Kishoreganj, Md. Abul Kalam Azad attended as Chief Guest, Police Super (SP) Mohammad Rasel Sheikh PPM ( Bar) Zila Parishad chairman Advocate Zillur Rahman and ADC (General) Rubel Mahamud as special guests while ADM Kazi Mohua Momtaj in the chair.
A discussion meeting at local Collectorate Conference Room on Sunday. It was addressed among others by, DNC Assistant Director (AD) Rafiqul Islam. Deputy Civil Surgeon dr.Tareq Anam, and Md. Shajahan .
DC Abul Kalam Azad urged the guardians of children and youths to be careful so that they do not get addicted to drugs.
SP Mohammad Rasel Sheikh PPM (Bar) said that thrust on building movement to have drug- free society.
After the meeting, prizes were given to the winners of painting contest.
BSS from Rajshahi reports : The integrated efforts of all the government, non-government and volunteer organizations concerned can be the best way of mitigating the abuse of drugs along with its illicit trafficking and trading.
Around 80 percent of the drug addicts are of the age group of 15 to 30 in the region. So, there is no alternative to concerted efforts against drug abuse to protect the young generation from degradation.
The observation came at a discussion on the issue held at Shilpakala Academy auditorium in observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Sunday.
Main theme of the day this year is “PEOPLE FIRST: Stop stigma and discrimination, strengthen prevention”. The District Administration and Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) jointly organised the programme discussing and devising ways and means on how to free the city from the curse of abusing drugs.
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Dr Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir addressed the discussion as the chief guest, while Deputy Commissioner Shamim Ahmed was in the chair.
Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Saiduddin Shahin, Civil Surgeon Dr Abu Sayeed Faruque, Additional Superintendent of Police Abu Shaleh Md. Asraful Alam and DNC Additional Director Fazlur Rahman also spoke.
DNC Deputy Director Alamgir Hossain welcomed the participants.
Commissioner Dr Humayun Kabir said the law enforcing agencies alone are not capable of combating the social disease, but community participation coupled with family and social contribution is very important to this end.
He added that all the local government institutions side by side with the public and private bodies should come forward and work together to attain the cherished result in this regard as the drug-abusing situation is gradually aggravating.
He said the present government has a declaration of zero tolerance against drug-addiction and urged all quarters to come forward to protect the young generation from the grip of social crime.
BSS from Feni adds : The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking-2023 was observed in the district Sunday with the theme “People First: stop stigma and discrimination, strengthen prevention.
Marking the day, a discussion meeting was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner at around 11:30 am.
Deputy Director of the district Department of Narcotics Control Mizanur Rahman Sharif presided over the meeting.
It was addressed, among others, by Deputy Director of district Local Govt Division Golam Md Baten and Additional Deputy Commissioner Avishek Das.
Golam Md Baten in his speech said we should not hate drug abusers.
“We should be sympathetic to them for their rehabilitation in society,” he added. Earlier a colorful rally was brought out in the town.
