Jamaat-Police clash leaves 10 injured in Ctg

Police have arrested 21 people from a Jamaat rally in Chattogram on allegations of vandalising police vehicles. At least 10 person, including a policeman, were also injured following the attack by Jamaat-Shibir activists on police in Chaumuhani area of the commercial hub Agrabad in the port city on Friday.
During the clash, the protesters vandalised two vehicles including a police car. Later, the police chased the agitators and rounded up 21 leaders and activists of Jamaat-Shibir.
The incident took place in Chaumuhani crossing area of Doublemooring police station after Jumma prayers.
Eyewitnesses said after the Jumma prayers Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists took out a procession from Agrabad area . When the procession reached Chaumuhani area the police intercepted it.
At that time, the Jamaat-Shibir men pelted brickbats and stones at the police and vandalised two vehicles. Later, the police dispersed the procession .
Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (West Zone) Jasim Uddin told this correspondent that the vehicle of Senior Assistant Commissioner (AC) of Doublemooring Zone, Mukul Chakma, was vandalised. He was injured in the Jamaat-Shibir attack.
Several other policemen were also injured. He also said that, 21 Jamaat- Shibir leaders and activists were arrested from the spot. Legal actions is being taken in this incident.
Meanwhile, the Doublemooring Thana Chhatra League brought out a protest procession in protest against the attack on police and vandalising the police vehicle.
The procession led by Double Mooring Thana Chhatra League President Farhad Sayem and General Secretary Rakib Haider paraded through Agrabad, Mazargate, Badamtali and terminated at Chaumuhani intersection.
