IAB demands AL govt’s resignation for fair polls

Staff Reporter  :
Leaders of the Islami Andolon Bangladesh (IAB) have demanded resignation of the Awami League government and handing over the power to a national government in a bid to ensure a free, fair and peaceful election.

They also said that people from all walks of life including the political parties are being united against the incumbent government and deman-ding for a fair election.

“Demanding for free and impartial election is not an unjust demand.

We congratulates those who are holding peaceful political programmes.

The political parties including BNP who have called for peaceful programme should be allowed to carry out their programmes,” IAB Amir Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim said.

While addressing a rally organised by IAB Dhaka Mahanagar Unit in front of party office at Purana Paltan on Thursday, the Amir said, “Our backs are against the wall. The people of the country are at risk, and there is no security for life, property, and faith. In the clutches of an oppressive government, we cannot sit idle at home.”

Party Presidium Member Deputy Amir Syed Muhammad Foyzul Karim said, “The parliament has to be dissolved before the election and power has to be handed over to a national government in a bid to overcome the current political crisis.”

“A crisis has been created in the country and it is heading towards confrontation. Like others, we also demand the resignation of the Awami League government. The incumbent government has been hatching conspiracy to stay in power though vote rigging.

The election has to be held under a national government to realise people right to vote,” another Presidium Member Syed Muhammad Mossadeq Billah Al-Madani said.

IAB Secretary General Principal Hafeez Maulana Yunus Ahmad said, “We will continue our movement till the toppling of the government.”

The Senior Joint Secretary of the party, Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman, said, “If BNP and Awami League hold gatherings, we will also be present on the streets. If BNP and Awami League show their strength, we will also demonstrate our strength.”
