Man who ‘threatened’ Hero Alom arrested

Court Correspondent :
Ashraful Hossain Alam known as Hero Alam on Monday filed a General Diary (GD) with Hatirjheel Police Station in the capital after he allegedly received a death threat over telephone.
Meanwhile, it has been learnt that an accused in connection with the death threat was arrested.

Hero Alom, a contestant of the recently concluded Dhaka-17 by-election, said he received the threat, which he believes, for filing a case in connection with the July 17 attack on him.
On that day, Hero Alam was attacked during the voting of Dhaka-17 by-polls by ruling party activists.

Later, he filed a case with the Banani Police Station accusing at least 20 unnamed people for the attack. On July 22, the case was transferred to Detectibe Branch (DB).
Hatirjheel Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC)Shah Md Awlad Hossain said the GD was filled around 11:30pm.
Quoting the GD, the OC said, “Hero Alam received at least three calls from an unknown number threatening to kill him. A GD has been filed in this regard.”

Talking to journalists in front of the police station, Hero Alom said the caller threatened him for taking steps against the attackers.
“Why did you (Alam) make a complaint to the DB against my brother? I will teach you a lesson within seven days,” said Hero Alom.
So far, 15 people were arrested in a case filed over the attack on Hero Alam, during the Dhaka-17 by-election.
