National Fisheries Week begins in dists

As part of the National Fisheries Week a view exchange meeting with journalists was held at Shibalaya . Manikganj District Fisheries Officer Md. Saifur Rahman presided over the meeting at the Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Office in Shibalaya on Monday.
Senior Assistant Director Mahbubul Haque, Journalist Babul Aktar Manjur, Shahidul Islam, Mohammad Younus Ali, Joy Ghosh, Akash Chowdhury, Sumon Hossain and others were present.
Manikganj District Fisheries Officer Saifur Rahman said that July 24 to 30 is the National Fisheries Week. On this occasion, various programs including rallies and discussions have been organized in all upazilas including Shibalaya of Manikganj district. To protect the fish resources of the country, all concerned including journalists must work together.
A colourful rally was also brought out in Manikganj District Town Monday.
DC Rehena Akter formally inaugurated the rally which was participated by district level government officials, officers and officials of fishery department, fishermen including elite of the town. After parading the town roads the rally ended at the collectorate premises.
A discussion and prize distribution was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner after the rally.
Deputy Commissioner Rehena Akter was present in the discussion under the joint auspices of Manikganj District Administration and Department of Fisheries as the chief guest. Additional SP Sujan Sarkar, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Manikganj Sadar Upazila Jotishwar Paul, Freedom Fighter Momin Uddin Khan, fisherman Bhola Nath Halder and Nepal Halder among others spoke on the occasion.
Chief guest Deputy Commissioner Rehena Akter said Bangladesh is now exporting fish to 52 countries in the world as the production of fish increased in the country, adding that the Youths are now engaged in the fish cultivation and most of them are self- reliant. The government has been providing incentives in various sectors for increasing fish production.
Four persons Nepal Halder of Harirampur Upazila, Jahangir Alam of Manikganj Sadar Upazila, Abdul Khalek of Saturia Upazilaand and Sheikh Shahid Ahmed of Ghior Upazila were accorded reception for their contribution in fish production.
Later Deputy Commissioner Rehena Akter released fish fry in the Manikganj Freedom Fighters Complex pond.
The week will be observed till July 30 with a theme of “Nirapad Machhea Varbo Desh, Gorbo Smart Bangladesh (The country will be filled with safe fish, build the Smart Bangladesh)”.
Sylhet Bureau reports : The National Fisheries Week was celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm at Habiganj Agricultural University (HAU), resonating with the theme ‘Nirapad Mache Vorbo Desh, Gorbo Smart Bangladesh’ (Lets the country be filled with safe fish production and Build the Smart Bangladesh).
The festivities commence on Monday , with the Faculty of Fisheries brought out a colorful parade that kick-starts from the premises of Academic Building No-1.
The procession boasted an array of participants, including teachers, students, and staff from various faculties, all adorned with vibrant festoons representing diverse native species of fish and aquatic animals. The jubilant procession made its way through the university road, culminating in front of Academic Building No-2.
The subsequent discussion meeting was hosted by the acting chairman of the Department of Aquatic Resources Management and Conservation, lecturer Iftekhar Ahmed Fagun. Associate Professor Dr. Arun Chandra Barman, chairman of Department of Oceanography and Blue Economy, Assistant Professor Dr. Md. Abubakar Siddik, acting chairman of Crop Botany Department and Deputy Registrar Md. Sadekuzzaman delivered their speeches at the discussion.
During the program, the speakers emphasized the visionary leadership of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in placing paramount importance on increasing fish production. Recently, the nation takes pride in achieving self-sufficiency in fish production, a feat made possible not only by the dedication of researchers but also by the pivotal role played by fish farmers. In the fiscal year 2020-21, a remarkable 46.21 lakh metric tonnes of fish were produced, and with further emphasis on research in the fisheries sector, this production level can undoubtedly be elevated.
Shahzadpur (Sirajganj) Correspondent says: The National Fisheries Week was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of UNO Sadia Afrin organized by Shahzadpur Upazila Administration and Fisheries Department. Shahzadpur Upazila Parishad Chairman, brave freedom fighter Prof Azad Rahman was present as a special guest in the event. Upazila Fisheries Officer Sathi Rani Niyogi gave a welcome speech. Among others Vice Chairman Mamunur Rashid Liaquat, Female Vice Chairman Eliza Khan and Assistant Commissioner (Lands) Liaquat Salman were present there. At the end of the ceremony, the best fish farmer of the upazila KM Nasir Uddin was awarded.
BSS from Bhola adds: The “National Fisheries Week-2023” began in the district Tuesday aiming to make the people aware to increase production of safe fish.
This year, the theme of the campaign is “Nirapad Machhea Varbo Desh, Gorbo Smart Bangladesh (We will fill the country with safe fish and build Smart Bangladesh)”. The week will end on July 30. On the occasion, the district administration and Department of Fisheries jointly organised a discussion on the Zila Shilpakala Academy premises the morning. Awami League (AL) Advisory Council Member and Member of Parliament of Bhola-1 constituency Tofail Ahmed virtually inaugurated the National Fisheries Week-2023, as the chief guest in the morning with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Arifuzzaman in the chair.
