Security couldn’t be given as Hero Alom didn’t inform police: DMP

Staff Reporter  :
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandaker Golam Faruk said that the police could not provide security to Hero Alam, an independent candidate of the recently held Dhaka-17 by-election, as he went to the same polling center for the second time without informing police. The miscreants may have attacked him taking this chance.

Police so far have arrested 10 people over the attack, said the DMP chief while responding to media at a programme in the capital on Saturday noon.

Alam visited the polling station in that morning and he went to Banani Bidyaniketan School and College polling centre again in the afternoon without informing police, said the DMP chief.

The DMP boss said that police could have ensured the candidate’s security if he went there after informing police.

DMP commissioner, however, claimed that Dhaka-17 by-election was held fairly and peacefully.
Meanwhile, the independent candidate Hero Alam blamed the Awami League for the attack on him at Banani Bidyaniketan School polling center during the by-election on July 17.
