The incident occurred in the St. Louis area of Missouri, where the young student was killed in a robbery.

“We would like to express our deepest condolences to the family of a 22-year-old student from Bangladesh, who died tragically in an apparent robbery in St. Louis, Missouri in the United States,” the US Embassy Dhaka wrote on its verified Facebook page on Thursday.

The US Embassy hoped that the relevant authorities conduct a comprehensive investigation into this senseless crime and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

“We expect a thorough investigation into this senseless crime by the appropriate authorities that will bring the perpetrators to justice. Our hearts go out to his family and friends,” it read.

Various media outlets reported that Romim was shot and killed at a gas station on Hampton Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri, on Tuesday, July 18.

Romim hailed from Valukia area in Mirsarai Upazila of Chattogram and was the son of a freedom fighter named Samshuddin Ahmed.

According to Romim’s elder brother, Riyaz Uddin Ahmed, Romim migrated to the United States in 2016, accompanied by his aunt.

While in the US, Romim pursued his studies in Computer Science at a local college and concurrently worked at a gas station.

The motive behind the crime is believed to have been the robbery of the victim’s car and cash.
On Wednesday, Foreign Minister Dr. Abdul Momen expressed his frustration, questioning whether the US and other countries issue any statements seeking answers from the US government when individuals, including Bangladeshi nationals, are killed in the United States.
He came up with this frustration when the 12 foreign missions stationed in Dhaka issued a statement condemning the government of Bangladesh for the attack on the independent candidate for the Dhaka-17 by-election Hero Alom and asked for fair investigation.
