Two MoUs likely to be signed during PM’s visit to Italy

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to visit Rome on July 23-26 to participate in a food summit to be held under the initiative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The visit is taking place on the invitation of UN Secretary General António Guterres.

Additionally, she is expected to hold a bilateral meeting with Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

On the sidelines of the Summit, there is a possibility of a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Nepal.

Furthermore, there are possibilities of signing two memorandums of understanding on “Cooperation in the Field of Energy” and “Cultural Exchange Programme” during the visit.
Foreign Minister Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen informed the journalists about the Prime Minister’s Italy trip during the curtain raiser at the Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam and Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, were also present.

Regarding the bilateral meeting with Italy’s Prime Minister, Foreign Minister said they are likely to discuss the issue of many Bangladeshis living in Italy irregularly, and Bangladesh will request for facilitating their regular stay in the country.

Prime Minister will leave Dhaka for Rome on July 23 and return on July 26. The summit will be attended by head of states or governments and scientists of different countries.

The Summit “United Nations Food Systems +2 Stocktaking Moment” would be held at the Food and Agriculture Organisation. On the invitation of the UN Secretary General António Guterres, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is attending the Summit.

After the inaugural session of the Summit, Prime Minister will join the plenary session “Food Systems and Climate Action’ on July 24.

In the evening, Prime Minister will take part in the “Regional Envoy Conference” organised by the Bangladeshi envoys living in 15 countries in Europe.

The Foreign Secretary informed that the Prime Minister would participate in a food conference attended by 14 to 15 heads of state or government.
