‘BNP’s hopes shattered as US, EU reject caretaker govt’

Staff Reporter :
Awami League General Secretary and Road and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday claimed that the delegates from the United States (US) and the European Union (EU) during their recent visit asserted that Bangladesh doesn’t need caretaker government. Rather, election will be held as per the constitution.

Obaidul Quader made the claim while addressing a brief rally prior to the Dhaka City North Awami League’s ‘peace and development rally’ at Tejgaon Satrasta in the capital on Wednesday.

“The hopes and expectations of BNP leaders have not been fulfilled with the visits of the US and EU delegations,” he said.

“The real matter was that the BNP leaders were eagerly waiting for the visits of US Under Secretary Uzra Zeya and the EU with immense hopes and expectations. But, they came and left Bangladesh without meeting the BNP leaders. All the hopes and aspirations of BNP leaders have been shattered.”

“The BNP leaders are not happy now. The election will be held as per the constitution. BNP leaders are not happy anymore as their hopes have not been fulfilled by the US, EU delegates visit. They (BNP) will have to take part in the election under Sheikh Hasina, it is very much painful for them,” the AL leader claimed.

Obaidul Quader told the party leaders and activists that the BNP launched attacks at different places as their mood was not good. They hurled abusive languages.

“But, you don’t need to become hot-headed. They (BNP) are hot-headed. We want peace. As long as we remain silent, we will get our victory quickly. We should not become hot-headed. We are in power. So, we must have to remain silent,” the AL General Secretary said.

Presided over by Dhaka City North Awami League President Bazlur Rahman and moderated by General Secretary SM Mannan Kochi.#
