Bangladesh A team stormed into the semi-finals of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Emerging Cup defeating Afghanistan A team by 21 runs in their last Group-A match at Colombo in Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
Batting first Bangladesh piled up a mammoth total of 308 for the loss of seven wickets in the stipulated 50 overs and then, restricted Afghanistan to 287 for the loss of eight wickets in 50 overs.
Bangladesh had a modest start as openers Mohammad Naim and Tanzid Hasan put on together 25 runs before Tanzid Hasan (9) was dismissed by Mohammad Saleem.
After Tanzid’s dismissal, Naim could stay at the crease for a short period as Naim (18) was dismissed by Mohammad Saleem when Bangladesh’s score was 30 for the loss of two wickets. Second-down Saif Hasan (4) was trapped leg before wicket by Mohammad Saleem when Bangladesh’s total was 34 for the loss of three wickets.
One-down Zakir Hasan and third-down Mahmudul Hasan Joy rescued their team from debacle contributing together 117 runs in the four-wicket stand before Zakir Hasan was dismissed by Izharulhaq Naveed when the Tigers’ score was 151 for the loss of four wickets. Mahmudul Hasan Joy hit a terrific 100. His 114-ball innings had 12 fours and two sixer. Joy was adjudged the Man of the Match for his match-winning innings.
