JICA signs grant agreement on JDS Scholarships

The Government of Japan has signed the Exchange of Notes (E/N) with the Government of Bangladesh, while Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed the Grant Agreement (G/A) on the JDS Scholarship for 2023 with the Government of Bangladesh on July 17.

According to a press release, the JDS Scholarship (Japanese Grant Aid for Human Resource Development Scholarship) program offers potential young government officials opportunities to pursue Masters and PhD in reputed Japanese universities.

Successful JDS fellows would contribute to formulating and implanting the socio-economic development of Bangladesh.
Besides pursuing higher education, they would also get acquainted with the Japanese culture, traditions, food and environment.

Under the G/A on JDS Scholarship, up to JPY 472 million (about $3.25 million) in scholarships will be provided for 33 government officials to study in Japanese universities.
Out of the 33, 30 students would pursue a master’s, and three students would pursue a doctoral.

To date, 525 Bangladeshi Government officials have received JDS Scholarships since 2002.
Iwama Kiminori, Japanese ambassador of Bangladesh; Sharifa Khan, secretary of Economic Relations Division, Ministry of Finance, Bangladesh; and Ichiguchi Tomohide, chief representative of JICA Bangladesh, represented the respective governments during the signing ceremony.
