Army personal died of electrocution before hours of marriage

Army personnel Swapan Kumar Dey (32) died of electrocution just before hours of completing wedding procedure in Barthi village under Gournadi upazila of Barishal district on Friday late night.
The deceased Swapan Kumar Dey was son of late Deepak Kumar Dey , a resident of Paschim Barthi village of Gournadi Upazila.
Afzal Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gournadi police station, said the dead body the victim handed over to family members after autopsy at Barishal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital on Saturday late afternoon.
After giving service salute from the armed forces he was cremated at family cremation-ground in native home on Saturday night, the OC said.
Cousin Barun Chandra Dey said Lance Corporal of Bangladesh Army Swapan came home from Jessore cantonment on a ten-day holiday from July 10 on the occasion of his marriage.
The marriage procedure was scheduled to be started at 10:42 PM on Friday night at Bilbgram under Mahilara Union of Gournadi Upazila.
According to custom, 30 guests from the bride’s house came to Swapan’s house to receive the groom were also entertained.
At night, around 6:30 pm Swapan while leaving home on barefoot to participate in wedding function, saw that a part of the decorative lights were not working. Then when Swapan touched the electric wire to fix it, electrocuted there.
One of his relatives seeing the incident, fell Swapan on ground hitting with a dry-stick. Later, the family members took him to Gournadi upazila hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Panchanan Datta, president of Ward No. 1 of Barthi union Awami League, said, now mourning is going on in both houses of the bride and bridegroom.
