Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) is going to start selling 5 kg rice for the first time alongside edible oil, lentil and sugar at subsidized prices for this month to family card holders as part of its monthly sales programme from today.
TCB will sell products to one crore low-income families those who have family cards across the country.
The TCB informed it through a press release that a consumer with a family card can buy a maximum of two liters of soybean oil, two kg of lentils, one kg of sugar and five kg of rice. This time the price of lentil has been reduced by Tk 10 per kg as its prices have decreased in the market.
In this case, the soybean oil will be sold at Tk 100 per liter, sugar at Tk 70 per kg, lentils at Tk 60 and rice at Tk 30 per kg.
According to TCB, the sale of these subsidized products among one crore low-income families will be started from today and it will continue for a month.
Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder and Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi will inaugurate this program today morning behind the Abdullahpur Palwell Convention Shopping Center under Dhaka North City Corporation, according to TCB.
TCB insider said, this is the first time that rice will be sold under the family card.
Earlier on June, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi announced to sell rice along with other products at the opening ceremony of TCB’s product sale program. Accordingly, the agency is going to start selling rice from July. The food department is supplying this subsidized rice to TCB.
Distributors will conduct the sales activities of TCB products as per the scheduled date and time with the help of the cooperation of City Corporation, District and Upazila administration. During this time, family card holders can also buy products from distributors’ shops or selected places in their respective areas.
